OIF Summary; Dec. 15, 2008: Troops in Iraq Detain Suspects, Seize Weapons

WASHINGTON, Dec. 15, 2008 -- U.S. soldiers detained five suspected terrorists in separate operations in Baghdad’s Rashid district in recent days, military officials reported.
In the first operation, soldiers detained three criminal suspects in the Abu Tshir community Dec. 12.
On Dec. 13, U.S. soldiers, working with Iraqi National Police, detained a man in the Risalah community who is wanted for several murders. The soldiers also confiscated an AK-47 assault rifle, a pistol, ammunition, propaganda, multiple identification cards and passports.
Yesterday, U.S. soldiers detained a man in the Aamel community who is suspected of weapons trafficking and of indirect-fire and roadside-bomb attacks.
U.S. soldiers also found a homemade bomb and 15 60 mm mortar rounds during a security patrol in southern Baghdad’s Jihad community. An explosive ordnance disposal unit responded to handle the munitions.
