News in Balance:
WASHINGTON, April 30, 2009 -- With a tone of inherited crisis that now typifies Administration statements, the U.S. Defense Department published with little notice on its Web site yesterday President Barack Obama's 100-day Pentagon progress report.
The Administration's self-assessment of the Department lists objectives across a variety of fronts, including supporting Obama's efforts to stimulate the economy, recommending significant defense spending reforms, and describing shifts in national security policy.
