WASHINGTON, April 20, 2009 -- It has been two years since Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said to the press about Operation Iraqi Freedom, "This war is lost," triggering an angry backlash by Republicans, who said the top Democrat had turned his back on the troops.

Reid's dismissive comments came on April 20, 2007 as the House voted 215-199 to uphold legislation ordering troops out of Iraq in 2008.

Democrats held majority control over both houses of Congress in 2007.
