OIF Summary, June 8, 2009: Troops Destroy Weapons Cache Near Taji
Dispatches from the Front:
WASHINGTON, June 8, 2009 -- Iraqi and Multinational Division Baghdad soldiers uncovered a large weapons cache June 5 southwest of Taji, Iraq.
The combined force seized a cache of 82 mm and 50 mm mortar rounds near Hor al-Bosh. A coalition explosive ordinance disposal team destroyed the munitions in place.
In other recent operations in Iraq, Iraqi and Multinational Division Baghdad soldiers conducted a three-day operation that began May 31. The operation resulted in the arrest of seven individuals wanted on Iraqi warrants, one of whom was wanted in connection with attacks against Iraqi army personnel and U.S. forces, as well as the kidnapping, torture and murder of several Iraqi civilians.
The suspects were transported to a nearby headquarters for further questioning.
