OEF Update, Aug. 30, 2009: 2 US Servicemembers Killed in Afghanistan
Dispatches from the Front:
KABUL, Afghanistan, Aug. 30, 2009 -- Two U.S. international security force service members died as a result of a hostile incident on Aug. 29 in eastern Afghanistan.
“We always feel a deep sense of loss whenever one of our troops dies. My words sound hollow in trying to express this loss, and I know many others feel a tremendous loss that will not be reassured by them,” said Col. Wayne Shanks, a U.S. spokesman. “However, in honor of their sacrifice, I know this force will continue this mission our country has called us to accomplish.”
The deaths bring to 47 the number of U.S. troops who have died in Afghanistan this month, a record number.
