OEF Update, Aug. 31, 2009 : 2 US Servicemembers Killed in Southern Afghanistan
Dispatches from the Front:
KABUL, Afghanistan, Aug. 31, 2009 -- Two International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) service members were killed today in separate incidents involving Improvised Explosive Device (IED) detonations in southern Afghanistan.
Air Force Captain Jonathan Stock, a U.S. spokesperson, confirmed that the deceased are U.S. servicemembers.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the loved ones of these two valiant service members who lost their lives fighting for the protection of the Afghans,” said Brigadier-General Eric Tremblay, ISAF Spokesperson.
“The callous tactics employed by the enemies of Afghanistan will not deter us from focusing our efforts on securing the population so that alternatives to insurgent violence and intimidation can be offered to the citizens of this great nation.”
