WASHINGTON, Sept. 3, 2009 -- Newswire services this morning reported that two U.S. soldiers died in a vehicle accident in northern Iraq.
A military statement says the two soldiers assigned to Multi-National Division-North were killed Tuesday in a vehicle rollover accident in Diyala province. It gave no other details.
The soldiers' names are being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
The deaths raise to at least 4,339 the number of U.S. military personnel who have died in the Iraq war since it began in March 2003. That's according to an Associated Press count.
