Arabian Sea (Sept. 19, 2006) - An F/A-18C Hornet, assigned to the Sidewinders of Strike Fighter Squadron Eight Six (VFA-86), makes an arrested landing on the flight deck aboard the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS Enterprise (CVN 65). Enterprise and embarked Carrier Air Wing One (CVW-1) are currently on a scheduled six-month deployment in support of Maritime Security Operations and the global war on terrorism. Marinette, Wis. (Sept. 8, 2006) - The first Littoral Combat Ship, Freedom (LCS 1) is shown under construction in Marinette, Wis. LCS is a new class of ship designed to be a fast, agile and networked warship able to execute focused missions to defeat shallow water threats such as mines, diesel-electric submarines and fast surface crafts.
