“And we have to start thinking about a solution to the problem. So that these young sisters and brothers are here now, who are 15 16 17 are not here 25 years later talking about these same problems."
"Now how do I know that the white people know that we are going to come up with a solution to the problem. I know it because they have retina scans, racial profiling, DNA banks, and they’re monitoring our people to try to prevent the ONE person from coming up with the ONE idea. And the one idea is, how we are going to exterminate white people because that in my estimation is the only conclusion I have come to. We have to exterminate white people off the face of the planet to solve the problem. *tepid applause* Now I don’t care whether you clap or not but I’m saying to you that we need to solve this problem because they are going to kill us. And I will leave on that. When people typically think of racism, they think of one person or group of people actively or inactively bigoted against another group or groups. Racism and being racist is about marginalizing people into stereotypes.
But the thing is, people only think someone is racist when they make inflammatory comments. Even when you are not thinking bigoted thoughts about another person because of their ethnic background, the idea that they belong to another race, black, white, asian, arabic, etc, is always on your mind. You are perpetually oriented to think in terms of "us" and "them."
Racism will persist because we are oriented to pick out the differences between us, whether it's a comedian making racist jokes a part of his schtick (black and white comedians), or having to fill out little bubbles on forms what is our race. Racism, particularly in America, will persist as long as the word "nigger" makes African Americans angry, because they know that word still has power over them. It will be with us as long as we orient ourselves that way.
I think the "differences between us" is what Richards was thinking when he blamed his outburst on Bush in the Letterman apology.

MONROE DID IT, JONATHAN WINTERS DID IT, MEL GIBSON DID IT...THE LIST IS LONG. GIVE RICHARDSON A BREAK AND SOME RE-HAB.
Richards blamed his outburst on Bush? What's he going to do next, blame it on Hitler?
I'd have more respect for Kramer if he just admitted he is a racist and said he got pissed off when a couple of "niggers" heckled him.
Sheesh. What a double standard.
