Transcript: bin Laden Video, 7 Sept. 2007

On the Home Front

On the Home Front:

News outlets report Osama bin Laden appeared for the first time in three years in a video Friday released ahead of the sixth anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks, telling Americans they should convert to Islam if they want the war in Iraq to end.

American officials said the U.S. government had obtained a copy even though the video had not been posted yet by al-Qaida - and intelligence agencies were studying the video to determine whether it was authentic and looking for clues about bin Laden's health.

Reporters and pundits quoted a transcript of the 30-minute video.

Rather than digress into boring partisan commentary, I have decided simply to link a to copy of the transcript.

Transcript: bin Laden Video (pdf, 6 pages).

Video Clip: One minute from the video (wmv).

Media sources: AP, CNN, The Washington Post, ABC News, Yahoo News - Reuters, Yahoo News - AP (Bush Responds).

Scary how Osama's words are so similar to Democrat talking points.

Is the guy on the DNC payroll yet? If not, he should be.

Every time I hear a lib say we should leave Iraq and concentrate on going after bin Laden I wonder what would have happened if we only fought Japan in WWII and ignored Hitler.

The cases are similar: Japan attacked us, Germany did not. Both Japan and Germany had goals of world domination, but they were not the same enemy.

Imagine, if we would have talked things over with Hitler he would have been our friend. In fact, without having to fight us, he might have had the forces needed to crush the Soviets and eventually save us the trouble of winning the Cold War.

Yeap, Hitler never attacked us.

Do some research.
American intelligence helped to install Hitler and American banks and corporations provided him with the resources and apparatus for war.
Roosevelt not only anticipated but provoked Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor.
The Taliban was established with the help of the ISI and CIA. Al-Qaeda was a CIA asset long before 9/11, and remains so. Bin Laden was armed by the CIA and funded by the Saudis. If this is indeed Bin Laden in the video, by popping up again on the anniversary of 9/11, that great "justifying event" for war in the Middle East, whether wittingly or not, he is still serving the interests of the military industrial complex.

#3, I am keeping a lookout for the black helicopters for ya'. While we are waiting, I'll loan you my tin-foil cap.

It's not amazing that the highest culture the world has ever known can breed so much envy abroad. It is amazing, however, that it breeds so much ignorant self-loathing at home.

If the U.S. sucks so bad, why are so many trying to sneak in?

Following that logic, perhaps what the world really wants is not less of what the U.S. has -- it wants more.

Looking at what America has achieved in the past 250 years -- substantially more than other cultures who have had centuries to advance -- perhaps it is in everyone's best interest to have MORE America exported to the world rather than less.

It may be a cool cliche to bust on the military-industrial complex, but the very way you are using the the Internet to make your point seems to smack a bit of hypocrisy.

The Internet is an innovation brought about through the needs of the military-industrial complex.

In fact almost anything everything about contemporary western lifestyle can be traced back to technological advances made due to the needs of the military during and after WWII.

Bin Laden is criticizing the Democrats as being complicit in extending the war while only paying lip service to the opposite. Both Clinton and Obama support keeping a level of troops in Iraq after the pullout. We are going to have bases (and the largest embassy) there for a long time. Doug Giles recently said he is looking still waiting for a real conservative. He can't find one because both sides of the aisle are dominated by neocons.

Lusitania?

See, this is the problem with education today; it is controlled by liberals and it stinks.

The RMS Lusitania, a British ocean liner, was torpedoed by the German submarine U-20 on May 7, 1915.

This was during World War I between 1914 and 1918.

While it is true Adolph Hitler was a private in the German Army during WWI, he didn't come to power in Germany until 1933, when he was appointed Chancellor. He became "Der Führer" in 1934.

After 1939, German U-boats initiated the outlawed practice of unrestricted submarine warfare, which harassed cargo shipping in order to strangle Great Britain. Hitler declared war against the U.S. in December 1941. After that point U-boats cruised up and down the Eastern Seaboard shooting targets at will.

Hitler never attacked the RMS Lusitania, not that it matters in this case. Lusitania was a British ship.

I think commenter #1 was talking about the fact that in 1941 Japan conducted a sneak attack on U.S. interests in Hawaii, which led to our involvement in WWII. Hitler never attacked the U.S like that and as such did not cause our entry into the war. The commenter is illustrating the absurdity of the argument that the war on terror should be moved out of Iraq and redeployed primarily to find and kill bin Laden, since he was the one who responsible for the 9/11 attacks -- an argument that childishly and foolhardily ignores the fact we are fighting in Iraq against folks who have declared war against us and our way of life.

Doesn't that make you feel bad? That you are admitting, that you are almost PROUD to say that the only reason our nation has developed is through war? That we are so pathetic, that without an arms race we could not innovate?

"If the U.S. sucks so bad, why are so many trying to sneak in?"

When you "sneak in" you get what you need right away, and dont have to pay taxes. Im pretty sure thats why people are so anxious to sneak in, rather than going though the correct procedure. The thing that sucks is that the tax payer ends up footing the bill.

"Lusitania" was world war 1, buddy. oh wait, i see someone else mentioned that.

Nice to see that at least 1 other person out there finished 5th grade history class and retained some of it.
