WASHINGTON, June 11, 2009 -- Newswire services this morning reported that four Chinese Muslim detainees who had been held at the Guantanamo Bay detention facility have been resettled in Bermuda, the U.S. Justice Department said on Thursday.

Reuters news service reported the following details:
The Obama administration has been under pressure to resettle the detainees, known as Uighurs, as it tries to fulfill its campaing promise to close the detention camp for foreign terrorism suspects on the U.S. naval base in Cuba.

The announcement comes one day after the tropical Pacific Island nation of Palau agreed to take in 17 of the Uighur detainees, which the U.S. government worries may face persecution if they are returned to China.
The Uighurs have been cleared of terrorism allegations, Reuters noted.
