Wire: CIA Director Leon E Panetta Tells Lawmakers CIA Officials Have Misled Congress Since 2001

WASHINGTON, July 8, 2009 -- Newswire services this evening reported that Central Intelligence Agency Director Leon E. Panetta has told lawmakers that CIA officials misled Congress "for a number of years" since 2001, according to a letter released Wednesday from six Democrat lawmakers.

The lawmakers say the CIA also withheld information about unspecified "significant actions."

The letter didn't identify when Panetta made the statements or to what actions they referred.

"This is similar to other deceptions of which we are aware from other recent periods," the letter said.

The Wall Street Journal reported that CIA spokesman George Little said "it is not the policy or practice of the CIA to mislead Congress." Mr. Little said the CIA itself "took the initiative to notify the oversight committees" about the lapses.

WSJ noted that the release of the letter is the latest twist in a tussle between House Democrats and the CIA. Earlier this year, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi accused the CIA of misleading her in briefings about the agency's use of waterboarding, an allegation refuted by the agency and challenged by Republicans.

It also comes one day before the House is scheduled to debate an intelligence bill. President Barack Obama issued a veto threat on Wednesday over provisions that would require more expansive briefings of intelligence committee members on sensitive matters, the Wall Street Journal said.

It's more than a little obvious that Panetta got orders from Team Obama to cover for Queen Nancy's BS-spree... but their are other centers of power at Langley that won't stand for this rubbish.

Pelosi was every bit as informed on the decision to us EITs as were the GOP… but is now lying about it in an attempt to appease the antiwar left and fulfill specious campaign posturing.

And apparently Pelosi and Obama forgot something: the CIA KILLS people… it’s in their job description. Did these two really think that these killers were going to just meekly take-one-for-the-team… when the team captain is a lying, incompetent, arrogant nebbish who has basically told them they need to kiss his ring? -please

Obama really kicked an ant hill with his ill-advised and politically motivated release of Bush Administration memos regarding EITs.

Let’s have a hearing and get it all out there, shall we? Then watch the rats scatter who attacked Bush for protecting the country from terrorist attack… but who clearly knew what was going on five years before we heard a peep out of them.

It's telling when elected officials go ballistic over alleged secret national defense programs (in this case, one that didn't materialize) but find it perfectly acceptable to vote for a way-of-life-changing global warming bill without reading it because it hadn't actually been written -- so it wasn't in the hopper to be read.
