WASHINGTON, Aug. 19, 2009 -- Newswire services this evening reported that a new Washington Post-ABC News poll says a small majority of Americans, 51 percent, now see the war in Afghanistan as not worth fighting.

The poll finds that 45 percent say the number of U.S. military forces in Afghanistan should be decreased.

However, the poll also finds that 42 percent of Americans say the U.S. is winning in Afghanistan; far fewer, 36 percent, say it is losing the fight.

Of those who identified their political leanings for the poll, 60 percent said they are liberal or moderate in their views.
