WASHINGTON, Oct. 19, 2009 -- Newswire services this morning reported that the U.S. military says an American soldier has been killed in a vehicle accident in northern Iraq.
The military says the Multi-National Division-North soldier was killed Sunday five miles (eight kilometers) west of the northern city Mosul, according to an Associated Press report.
The name of the soldier is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. The military said in a statement released Monday that the accident is under investigation.
The death raises to at least 4,350 the number of U.S. military personnel who have died in the Iraq war since it began in March 2003. That's according to an AP count.
