Wire: US Servicemember Killed in Iraq

WASHINGTON, Nov. 23, 2009 -- Newswire services this morning reported that the U.S. military says an American soldier has been killed in action in Iraq.

A military statement said the soldier from the Multi-National Division - South died on Sunday.

No further details were available.

The servicemember's name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin and release by the Department of Defense.

The death raises to at least 4,364 the number of U.S. military personnel who have died in the Iraq war since it began in March 2003, according to an Associated Press count.
