Al-Zawahri Sends a Message to Democrats

Al-Zawahri
He was for the Democrats before he was against them.

Updating a story that appeared earlier this week, in a portion of the tape from al Qaeda No. 2 man, Ayman al Zawahri, made available only today, Zawahri says he has two messages for American Democrats, according to ABC News.

"The first is that [the Democrats] aren't the ones who won the midterm elections, nor are the Republicans the ones who lost. Rather, the Mujahideen -- the Muslim Ummah's vanguard in Afghanistan and Iraq -- are the ones who won, and the American forces and their Crusader allies are the ones who lost," Zawahri said, according to a full transcript obtained by ABC News.
The deputy leader of al-Qaida named Democrats in new criticism of U.S. policy. Al-Zawahri said the United States was negotiating with the wrong people in Iraq, implying in a video broadcast Wednesday on Al-Jazeera that Washington should be talking to his group, reports AP.

"I want to tell the Republicans and the Democrats together ... you are trying to negotiate with some parties to secure your withdrawal, but these parties won't find you an exit (from Iraq) and your attempts will yield nothing but failure," Ayman al-Zawahri said on the video.
The warning comes as elation in the Middle East wanes for the newly won Democrat control of Congress.

Al-Jazeera reports al-Zawahiri called for the occupied Palestinian territories will be liberated through jihad, not elections, according to a senior al-Qaeda leader.

In the video, al-Zawahiri said: "Any road other than jihad will only lead to loss."

He also said: "Those trying to liberate the land of Islam through elections based on secular constitutions or on decisions to surrender Palestine to the Jews will not liberate a grain of sand of Palestine."

Al-Zawahri criticized Iran and Shiites abroad who supported the U.S.-backed governments in Iraq and Afghanistan while they also backed the anti-Israeli forces in Lebanon and the Palestinian territories.

In a previous video, marking the fifth anniversary of the attacks on the US of September 11, 2001, al-Zawahiri said that the Gulf and Israel would be al-Qaeda's next targets.

Egyptian-born al-Zawahiri carries a $25m US bounty for information leading to his arrest or death.

Local: Fried Turkey Grounded at Dulles

Turkey Target
Deemed dangerous at Dulles.

According to AP, you can add deep-fried turkey to the list of banned substances at Dulles International Airport.

A holiday party last week at the airport's administrative offices drew a fire marshal and complaints from union officials upset with the menu: a deep-fried turkey prepared on site that they deemed a fire hazard.

"It has ... come to my attention that the Dulles Management decided it would be a nice idea to DEEP FRY A TURKEY in the Dulles administrative quarters, surrounded by carpet, linoleum, an airport, aircraft, a control tower, thousands if not millions of gallons of jet fuel and thousands of passengers and employees," Kieron Heflin, an air traffic controller's union representative, complained in a letter to management.
An airport fire marshal made managers turn off the cooker, airport spokeswoman Tara Hamilton said.

"It was meant for indoor use," said FAA spokeswoman Diane Spitaliere. "This is just another attempt by (union officials) to make management look bad because of discontent over their contract." Union officials have been battling management over staffing levels and other workplace issues.

The Decline and Fall of Western Civ for 21 Dec.

The Decline and Fall of Western Civ.: Barbarians have Crashed the Gate
He was for the investigation before he was against it.

After reading: wash, rinse and repeat.

  • AP reports former ambassador Joseph Wilson asked a federal judge Wednesday not to force him to testify in the CIA leak case and accused former White House aide I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby of trying to harass him on the witness stand.

You know what they say about messing with the bull -- expect to get the horn.

  • Eight Marines were charged Thursday in the massacre of 24 Iraqi civilians in the town of Haditha last year, according to AP.

  • Reuters reports a U.S. federal judge has thrown out a lawsuit by an Iraq war veteran who claimed filmmaker Michael Moore used the veteran's image without permission in the anti-war documentary "Fahrenheit 9/11."

  • Authorities arrested a man on Tuesday who, they said, was caught on camera throwing rocks at the Republican Headquarters building in Columbus, reports NBC4i.com. Be sure to check out the video.

  • A company that helps advertisers connect with bloggers willing to write about their products for payment will now require disclosures amid criticism and a regulatory threat, according to AP.

Before this week, advertisers were barred by PayPerPost Inc. from telling bloggers they can't disclose the sponsorship, but bloggers were able to decide on their own whether or not to do so. Under the new policy, bloggers must disclose that they are accepting payment, either in the write-up or in a general disclosure policy on the blogger's Web journal.

David Sifry, founder of the blog search site Technorati, praised PayPerPost's move.

"Overall, this is an encouraging and long-awaited change," he said. "I think that people have learned that without trust, all posts become suspect. ... By encouraging honesty and transparency in sponsored posts, PayPerPost adds (some) clarity to the waters they muddied when they launched six months ago."

  • Reuters reports President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Thursday mocked President Bush and said Iran's nuclear program was a source of inspiration for other nations.

Addressing a rally in western Iran, Ahmadinejad urged Bush to "step out of your glass palace and go to your people to see how isolated you are, not only across the world but also in your own country."

Reuters also reports a planned U.N. sanctions resolution will force Iran to review cooperation with the United Nations' nuclear watchdog but will not make Tehran abandon its atomic programme, a senior Iranian official said on Thursday.

"The nature of this resolution is not capable of pressuring Iran and Iran will give an appropriate response to it," Ali Larijani, secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, was quoted as saying by the ISNA students news agency.

  • The Democrats (note, they are not called the 'Democratics') are planning an all-star mostly has-been shindig to celebrate their return to power. If you have $1,000 to spare, get your ticket now.

  • And finally, speaking of Democrats and a return to power, Reuters reports former White House intern Monica Lewinsky, whose sexual relationship with U.S. President Bill Clinton led to his impeachment, has graduated from the London School of Economics, her publicist said on Wednesday.

Report: Berger Stole Archive Documents

Sandy Burglar
He stole the documents before he hid them.

No matter how the liberal press tries to spin the headline, Report Says Berger Hid Archive Documents, the story is this: Sandy Berger stole highly classified documents that included critical assessments about the Clinton administration's handling of the millennium terror threats as well as identification of America's terror vulnerabilities at airports and seaports.

He hid the documents after he stole them.

AP reports President Clinton's national security adviser removed classified documents from the National Archives, hid them under a construction trailer and later tried to find the trash collector to retrieve them, the agency's internal watchdog said Wednesday.

Rep. Tom Davis, R-Va., outgoing chairman of the House Government Reform Committee, said he's not convinced that the Archives can account for all the documents taken by Berger. Davis said working papers of National Security Council staff members are not inventoried by the Archives.

In October 2003, the report said, an Archives official called Berger to discuss missing documents from his visit two days earlier. The investigator's notes said, "Mr. Berger panicked because he realized he was caught."

The notes said that Berger had "destroyed, cut into small pieces, three of the four documents. These were put in the trash."

After the trash had been picked up, Berger "tried to find the trash collector but had no luck," the notes said.

Al-Zawahri Says U.S.Talking to Wrong People

Al-Zawahri
He was for the Democrats before he was against them.
